Coffee is a beverage prepared from roasted "beans" (seeds) of the Coffea shrub, cultivated in over 70 countries and enjoyed the world over. Coffee types are differentiated by the bean species, origin, and roasting degree.

Coffee naturally contains caffeine (sometimes removed during production to create decaffeinated coffee varieties). Many factors influence the amount of caffeine in a finished coffee drink, including bean type (Robusta beans have a higher caffeine content than Arabica), roasting (caffeine diminishes in beans as the roast gets darker), and preparation method (espresso contains more caffeine per ounce than brewed coffee).
